India to build world’s longest hyperloop test tube at 410 metres, says Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that India’s Hyperloop test tube, located at IIT Madras, will soon be the longest in the world, measuring 410 meters. The testing facility, already the largest in Asia, is expected to push India ahead in the Hyperloop transportation revolution.

Hyperloop is an ultra-high-speed transportation system where trains travel through vacuum tubes with minimal friction, enabling speeds far beyond traditional rail networks. Speaking during his visit to the IIT Madras Discovery Campus on March 15, the Minister observed a live demonstration of the Hyperloop system and expressed confidence in India's ability to develop indigenous Hyperloop technology.

Taking to social media, Vaishnaw wrote, "Longest Hyperloop tube in Asia (410 m)... soon to be the world's longest." He also highlighted that the Railway Ministry has extended financial and technical support for this project, while ICF Chennai (Integral Coach Factory) will develop the electronic systems required for the project.

Vaishnaw praised the young innovators at IIT Madras and the Avishkar Hyperloop team for successfully developing India’s first indigenous Hyperloop testing system. He emphasized that all components and technologies used in the project are being developed domestically, marking a significant step towards India’s self-reliance in futuristic transportation.

During his visit to the IIT Chennai campus in Guindy, the Minister also inspected an exhibition at the Center for Innovation's Open House 2025. He interacted with students and innovators, stressing that India will become a global leader in technology under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He noted that India has the highest number of skilled youth globally, who will play a vital role in the country’s technological progress, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence, data science, and semiconductors.

Vaishnaw also made a major announcement regarding India’s semiconductor industry, stating that five semiconductor facilities are currently operational, and the first India-made semiconductor will be rolled out by the end of 2025. He concluded his visit by awarding prizes to winners of the innovation competition and encouraging them to continue their groundbreaking research.
