The government on Monday decided to send National Disaster Response Force search and rescue teams, medical teams and relief supplies to earthquake-hit Turkey.
The move comes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's directive to offer all possible help to the country. PM Modi's principal secretary PK Mishra held a meeting in South Block to discuss immediate relief measures and a decision was taken there, an official statement said.
Two 100-strong NDRF teams with specially trained dog units and necessary equipment are ready to be flown to the quake-hit area for search and rescue operations. Medical teams are also ready with trained doctors and paramedics with essential medicines, it said. The relief material will be sent in coordination with the Turkish government and the Indian embassy in Ankara and the consulate general office in Istanbul, he added.
Apart from NDMA and NDRF, the cabinet secretary, representatives of the ministries of home, defence, external affairs, civil aviation, health and family welfare also attended the meeting, the statement said.
