An Indian Army soldier, Javed Ahmed Wani, has gone missing from Jammu and Kashmir, creating concerns for his safety and well-being. He was on leave from his posting in Leh and had returned home in Kulgam. However, there has been no news about him since Saturday morning, raising alarm among his family and authorities.
According to the Army's statement, the soldier had gone to the market to purchase groceries, and there is a shortcut route to the market from his home. It is suspected that he might have taken this route. The shortcut passes through the area of Ashthal, which is surrounded by dense gardens, and it is believed that the soldier might have taken this path.
In response to his disappearance, a joint team of the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police has initiated a search operation in and around the road where he was last seen. The family members of Javed Ahmed Wani reported finding his slippers and blood stains along the route he took to the market. Additionally, his car, which was found unlocked, was recovered from Parnhall.
The family has raised concerns about a possible kidnapping, given the circumstances of his disappearance. However, the police have not yet confirmed any reports of such an incident.
Notably, this incident has brought back memories of a similar tragic event last year when another soldier, Sameer Ahmed Malla, was kidnapped and killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. Malla's body was discovered in an orchard in Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir. Investigations revealed that he was lured into a meeting by a person named Athar Elahi Sheikh, who was associated with the terrorist organization.
