The Indian Army carried out a coordinated fire assault on multiple terrorist launchpads located near the Line of Control (LoC) during the night between May 8 and 9, 2025. The operation was executed in direct response to attempted drone strikes originating from Pakistan that targeted multiple cities in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.
According to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), the mission was launched under the codename “Operation Sindoor” in the early hours of May 9. Indian armed forces targeted and destroyed nine terror camps situated in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), described by the ADGPI as “a hub for planning and executing terror attacks against Indian civilians and security forces in the past.”
In a statement posted on X, the ADGPI said: “As a response to Pakistan's misadventures of attempted drone strikes on the night of 08 and 09 May 2025 in multiple cities of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, the Indian Army conducted a coordinated fire assault on terrorist launchpads, pulverizing & razing them to cinders. The Indian Army's swift and decisive action has dealt a significant blow to terrorist infrastructure and capabilities.”
The Indian Army had previously intercepted a Pakistani drone on Saturday, May 4, showcasing air defence readiness. Following the attempted drone strikes on May 8–9, debris from a projectile was recovered in Wadala village in Amritsar district on Friday, indicating cross-border activity linked to the ongoing escalation.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his residence to provide an update on the security situation. The meeting was held in light of the heightened tensions along India’s western borders following the attempted Pakistani drone incursions and India’s retaliatory operations using air-launched precision weapons.
