In a recent development, a fraudulent rental scheme operating in Vedic Village, under the jurisdiction of Rajarhat police station, has been exposed, resulting in the arrest of four individuals.
The mastermind behind the scheme targeted unsuspecting victims through social media advertisements claiming to offer rental accommodations in the scenic Vedic Village resort and bungalows. However, it was discovered that the bookings made through the advertised contact number were fictitious, leaving victims deceived and out of pocket.
The incident came to light when an Indian Coast Guard Commander stumbled upon an advertisement on social media promoting the rental of luxurious bungalows and resorts in Vedic Village, Rajarhat.
Intrigued by the opportunity, the commander contacted the provided phone number and proceeded to make an online booking, paying half of the rent in advance. However, upon contacting Vedic Village to confirm his reservation, he was informed that no booking had been made in his name. Alarmed by this revelation, the commander attempted to reach out to the fraudsters again, but all his efforts proved futile, as their phone went unanswered.
Realizing that he had fallen victim to a scam, the Indian Coast Guard Commander promptly lodged a written complaint with the Rajarhat Police Station on April 17, 2023. Acting swiftly, the police initiated an investigation into the incident, leading to the arrest of four individuals from Tapsia in Kolkata the previous night.
The accused have been identified as Ashraf Imam and Imran Imam from Tapasya, Sheikh Saqib from Tapasya, and Mohammad Miraj from Kashipur, Bhangar.
The arrested individuals are set to appear before the Barasat court today, where the police will seek five days of custody to further interrogate them. Authorities aim to ascertain the involvement of any other individuals in this fraudulent operation.
