India puts up a thrilling batting show against Australia on Day 2 of the first test of the Border Gavaskar trophy in Perth. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul remain unbeaten at Stumps and scored 172 runs in the second innings taking India ahead of the hosts by 218 runs.
After reducing Australia to 104/10 - thanks to Jasprit Bumrah's brilliant five-wicket haul, the seam movement decreased significantly in India's second innings, by nearly a fourth of what it was in their first innings. From 48.8% of balls deviating off the seam significantly (0.75 degrees or more) in India's first innings, only 27.3% of balls seemed as much in their second innings.
Jaiswal is now 10 short of a hundred, while Rahul has calmly ticked along to 62. There have been a few plays and misses, and a few strokes of luck, but mostly this pair has been in control. Admirable restraint from Jaiswal in particular as he has curbed his normal style.
