India's population is projected to grow to 152.2 crore by 2036, according to data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The data, released in the 25th edition of the government's publication "Women and Men in India 2023," provides a comprehensive analysis of the demographic changes expected over the next decade.
One of the key highlights of the report is the anticipated improvement in the sex ratio, which is expected to increase from 943 females per 1,000 males in 2011 to 952 by 2036. Additionally, the percentage of females in the population is projected to rise slightly, from 48.5% in 2011 to 48.8% by 2036.
The report also outlines significant shifts in the age structure of the population. The proportion of individuals under 15 years of age is expected to decrease, which is attributed to declining fertility rates. Conversely, the proportion of the population aged 60 years and above is projected to see a substantial increase. This shift indicates an aging population, which could have wide-ranging implications for the country’s social and economic fabric.
The "Women and Men in India 2023" report offers a detailed overview of the status of men and women in the country, with data segmented by gender, urban-rural divides, and regional variations. This granular analysis provides insights into the disparities and progress made across different groups in India.
