Indian Railways has launched a pilot initiative to provide covered blankets for passengers in AC coaches, aiming to enhance hygiene and ensure a safer, cleaner, and more comfortable journey. Blankets on trains are typically washed only once or twice a month, unlike bed sheets and pillow covers, which prompted the new move.
The initiative was inaugurated by the Railway Minister on Thursday on the Jaipur–Asarva Express, where all AC classes now feature printed blanket covers. Indian Railways stated that the new practice promotes hygiene, uniformity, and an improved onboard experience for passengers. Currently, the scheme is being trialed on one train, with plans to expand it across other routes soon.
This development is part of broader efforts under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the Union Budget 2025-26 allocation of Rs 9,960 crore for railway infrastructure. Rajasthan currently operates 12 Vande Bharat services, providing faster, safer, and more comfortable travel across key routes.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the ongoing railway improvements, noting that the focus remains on transforming passenger experiences through new trains, station redevelopments, track electrification, and modern maintenance depots.
