In a significant milestone for the Indian stock market, the benchmark BSE Sensex surged past the 75,000 mark for the first time today. The bullish trend was also reflected in the Nifty 50 index, which soared above the 22,700 level. The market opened with strong gains, with the Sensex rising by 381.78 points, or 0.51%, to reach 75,124.28. Similarly, the Nifty 50 opened at 22,765.10, registering a gain of 98.8 points, or 0.44%.
Notably, the Bank Nifty index also hit a record high, starting the day at 48,810.80, up by 229.10 points, or 0.47%.
Among the top performers driving this surge were stocks from the Tata group. Tata Motors Ltd and Tata Steel Ltd secured positions among the top five gainers on the index, alongside Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
However, not all stocks shared in the gains, with several prominent companies experiencing losses. ITC Ltd, Hindustan Unilever Ltd, Asian Paints Ltd, HDFC Bank Ltd, and Axis Bank Ltd were among the top losers for the day.
