On his four-day visit to the UK, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar marked Diwali by offering prayers at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (Neasden Temple) in London. The visit emphasized the cultural connections between India and the UK and showcased the significance of shared political and economic interests. During his stay, EAM Jaishankar met with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Diwali wishes, gifting a Lord Ganesha statue and a cricket bat signed by Indian batting legend Virat Kohli.
The visit underlined the growing bilateral partnership between India and the UK, with the two nations launching a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021. India's External Affairs Minister engaged in discussions about reframing the relationship for contemporary times, demonstrating a commitment to a partnership that benefits both countries. Notably, negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the UK have been underway since 2022, with the 12th round of talks occurring from August 8-31 this year.
EAM Jaishankar's visit aimed to give a new impetus to the friendly ties between India and the UK, fostering diplomatic, cultural, and economic connections. As part of the trip, he conveyed best wishes on Diwali, reinforcing the shared commitment to the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
