Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
India’s 1st Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) is set to commence in Uttarakhand, announced Union aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The HEMS, operating under the 'Sanjeevani' project, will deploy a helicopter stationed at the All Indian Institute of Medical Science in Rishikesh, capable of airlifting individuals within a 150 km radius to hospitals.
The assembly and certification of the helicopter are currently in progress, according to Scindia, who emphasized the government's commitment to improving air connectivity in Uttarakhand. This development aligns with the state's recent approval of the Uttarakhand Helipad and Heliport Policy 2023, aimed at addressing challenges in accessing remote areas for emergency medical and disaster-related services.
Elaborating on efforts to improve air connectivity in the state, Scindia said, “The government is upgrading three airports in Uttarakhand which include Dehradun, Pant Nagar, Pithoragarh.” The number of heliports will be increased to 21 in the upcoming years, he said.
