IndiGo has appointed William Walsh as its new chief executive officer, following the early resignation of Pieter Elbers. The announcement marks a major leadership transition for the airline as it looks to strengthen its position in a rapidly evolving aviation market.
Walsh, currently serving as Director General of the International Air Transport Association, brings decades of global aviation experience, having previously led major international airline groups. IndiGo’s leadership described his appointment as a significant step towards driving growth and navigating complex industry dynamics.
In his first remarks, Walsh said he was “delighted” to lead the airline, highlighting its strong foundation, workforce, and growth potential. He emphasised the need to build a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration as the aviation sector undergoes rapid changes globally.
The leadership change comes weeks after Elbers stepped down ahead of schedule, following operational challenges including large-scale flight cancellations linked to pilot shortages and regulatory constraints.
