Industrialist Pawan Ruia remanded to 7-day custody in ₹93 lakh cyber fraud case

Pawan Ruia, accused in a ₹93 lakh cyber fraud case, has been remanded to seven days of police custody after being produced in court on Wednesday. He was arrested by the Cyber Crime Wing from in front of a hotel in New Town, Kolkata, following an investigation into a large-scale financial fraud targeting a senior citizen.

The case originated from a complaint filed by Swapan Kumar Mondal at Eco Park Police Station, alleging that he was duped of ₹93 lakh after being lured through a mobile application promising high returns. During the investigation, police traced the fraudulent transactions to an address at 46 Syed Amir Ali Avenue, where the operation was allegedly being run from a centralized setup.

Further probe revealed links to a wider inter-state cyber fraud network. Earlier, in November 2025, another accused, Rahul Verma, was arrested at Delhi Airport while attempting to flee abroad. His interrogation exposed the scale of the network, with as many as 1,379 cyber fraud cases reportedly registered across the country. Investigators are now using the custody period to uncover additional links and identify other individuals involved.
