Considering the problems of Lord Shiva devotees, a bandh Bori was erected on the Banai River on Friday with the efforts of the community.
Local resident Ajay Sharma informed us about the construction of the original dam and explained the circumstances under which it happened.
“Every Monday about 15 to 20 thousand devotees from Ranchi, Khunti, Chaibasa, Jamshedpur, and other places reach Banai river first. After bathing and worshiping, they walked 3 km to Amreshwardham with holy water to perform Jalabhishek to Bhole Baba.
But this year, after four days of monsoon, the water flow in the Banai River was very less due to sparse rainfall.
Anticipating the issue of devotees on the first Monday, a decision was taken for the construction of Bori bandh,” said a resident who was involved in the construction of the dam.
Low-cost Bori Bandhs dams are made by filling cement bags with sand and soil. These "filled" bags are then held on top of each other to prevent water from flowing into local streams. This saves enough water throughout the year for irrigation and also maintains the water level in the wells.
Sharing the pictures, Sharma said, “A lot of water has accumulated in the river after the construction of Bori Bandh. District Administration, CRPF Battalion 94, Sewa Welfare Society, Gram Sabha Peloul, JMM, BJP, and other social workers contributed to the construction of the Bori Dam.
The most significant contribution was the CRPF 94 Battalion.
