Internet shutdown in Darbhanga, Bihar after violent clashes during idol immersion

Following communal tensions during Saraswati idol immersion in Darbhanga, Bihar, mobile internet services and social media platforms have been suspended for two days. The decision, prompted by violent clashes during the procession, was recommended by the Darbhanga District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police, with the Home Department issuing orders on Saturday. The ban, effective from 2 pm on February 17 to 2 pm on February 19, aims to curb the spread of rumors and maintain peace in the district.

Stones were hurled at the procession during idol immersion, leading to escalated tensions between groups in Mudiya village and Bahera market, resulting in injuries. Security forces have been deployed in affected areas, with officials conducting investigations uncovering plans to incite communal discord via WhatsApp groups. The administration's swift action underscores efforts to restore normalcy amidst the aftermath of violence.
