Mamata awards 50 lakhs to female footballers of East Bengal team
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning the toss and electing to bowl first against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Captains Ajinkya Rahane and Rajat Patidar carried the IPL trophy onto the stage before the toss, marking the official start of the tournament. The stadium witnessed a full house as teams prepared for the season opener.
The pre-match ceremony featured a multi-tiered cake-cutting event celebrating IPL’s 18th year. Following this, the national anthem was played as players, officials, and spectators stood in respect. BCCI President Roger Binny, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, and IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal were present, overseeing the formalities. The presence of team owners and other dignitaries added to the opening event’s significance.
Speaking ahead of the match, RCB captain Rajat Patidar expressed his excitement about leading the team, stating, “It is a great feeling to lead RCB.” KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane, returning to Eden Gardens, remarked, “I love this ground, it is a dream to play here.” Rahane also emphasized his approach, saying, “Both patience and precision are my friends, and every day I try to work on my patience.”
