Meanwhile, the couple's union has sparked a heated discussion in Pakistan, where a Muslim cleric, Dr. Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi, declared their marriage 'Haraam,' citing Islamic prohibitions against unions with individuals not adhering to religious books revealed by Allah. Ira and Nupur officially registered their union on January 3 in Mumbai, followed by a white wedding in Udaipur on January 10 and a reception in Mumbai. The couple had gotten engaged in November 2023, with Ira being the daughter of Aamir Khan and his first wife, Reena Dutta, who split in 2002. Aamir Khan, who married Kiran Rao in 2005, also parted ways with her in 2021.
