Iran launches ballistic missiles towards Riyadh; Saudi responds

Saudi Arabian air defenses successfully intercepted two out of six ballistic missiles launched by Iran toward the Riyadh region, as regional hostilities entered their fourth week. According to the Saudi Ministry of Defense, the remaining four missiles fell into the Persian Gulf and uninhabited land areas, causing no immediate casualties. This sophisticated aerial assault marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict that has gripped West Asia since late February.

In a coordinated strike, at least six drones were also launched toward the capital and the Eastern Province. Military officials confirmed that these drones were shot down, though debris from the interceptions reportedly landed near a military installation. Despite the proximity of the falling fragments, authorities have confirmed there was no loss of life or significant structural damage. The Ministry utilized social media platform X to keep the public informed of the evolving situation throughout the night.

The backdrop of this attack is a region already reeling from the massive February 28 offensive by U.S. and Israeli forces against Iran. That operation, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and over 1,340 others, has triggered a volatile cycle of retaliation. Iran stands accused of systematically targeting Persian Gulf nations as part of its "wounded lion" strategy, aimed at disrupting regional stability and global energy corridors.
