Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani said on Monday that Tehran will not negotiate with the United States, amid escalating tensions following recent U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. His remarks came as speculation grew over possible diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
In a statement posted on X, Larijani dismissed reports suggesting that Iranian officials had sought to initiate talks with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. He clarified that Iran had not approached Washington for negotiations following the latest developments in the region.
The comments followed a wave of military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran over the weekend. The attacks came shortly after Tehran and Washington had engaged in discussions related to Iran’s nuclear programme, further intensifying geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Larijani also criticised Trump’s policies, accusing him of destabilising the region. He said the U.S. leader’s “delusional fantasies” had plunged West Asia into chaos and suggested that Washington now fears the possibility of increased American troop casualties as the conflict escalates.
