ISF, BJP supporters clash over panchayat office control in Bhangar, several injured

Political tension flared once again in Bhangar on Tuesday as supporters of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) allegedly clashed over control of a panchayat office in South 24 Parganas. According to police and local sources, the confrontation took place in Potra Gram Panchayat and resulted in multiple injuries, damage to vehicles and heightened security deployment in the area.

The unrest reportedly began in the morning when a dispute emerged over control of the panchayat office. The disagreement quickly escalated into a confrontation between workers and supporters of the two parties. During the clash, several motorcycles and other vehicles were vandalized. Both sides accused each other of carrying out attacks using bamboo sticks, rods and lathis.

Local sources said several people from both groups sustained injuries during the violence. Some of the injured were reported to be in critical condition. Allegations of crude bomb throwing also surfaced during the clash, further intensifying tension in the locality and prompting an immediate response from law enforcement agencies.

A large contingent of police personnel from Bhangar Police Station was deployed at the scene along with members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Security forces carried out operations in and around the affected area to restore order and prevent any further escalation of the situation.

Bhangar had witnessed extensive deployment of central forces during the recent election period. Tuesday’s incident marked a shift in the area’s political conflict, which had previously been associated largely with rivalry between the ISF and the Trinamool Congress. As of the latest information, neither the ISF nor the BJP had issued an official statement regarding the clash, while police continued to monitor the situation closely.
