The protest against the Waqf Act, initially sparked in Bhangar, has now reached the heart of Kolkata. Under the leadership of ISF party head and MLA Nawsad Siddique, a massive rally moved from Sealdah towards Ramlila Maidan, causing major traffic disruption across the central parts of the city.
The protestors took the route via Moula Ali area, drawing hundreds to the streets in opposition to what they call an unjust law affecting minority land rights. Earlier, the protest was stopped in the Basanti Highway area after participants tried to gather at Ramlila Maidan without police permission.
Protestors from Sandeshkhali, Minakhan, and Bhangar claimed they were halted without reason, while the police argued that no prior intimation had been given. Tensions ran high as barricades were placed, and protestors clashed with law enforcement in efforts to move forward.
