J&K assembly condemns Pahalgam attack as ‘assault on Kashmiriyat’, endorses action against Pakistan

In a powerful message of solidarity and defiance, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly convened a special session on Monday to condemn the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The assembly passed a resolution describing the attack as a direct assault on the ethos of "Kashmiriyat" and the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary moved the resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the House. Members observed a two-minute silence in tribute to the victims, standing united in grief and resilience. The resolution reflected not only anger over the massacre but also a reaffirmation of Jammu and Kashmir’s commitment to peace, unity, and constitutional values.

The document called the attack "barbaric, inhumane, and cowardly" and paid homage to the supreme sacrifice of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony wallah who died while trying to protect tourists. His bravery was hailed as a true embodiment of the spirit of Kashmir, a symbol of courage that would inspire generations to come.

The resolution went further by endorsing the Centre's strong diplomatic response against Pakistan. Measures like the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, revocation of visas to Pakistani nationals, and curtailment of diplomatic staff were fully supported by the House as fitting reactions to the grave provocation.

The assembly's message was clear — such acts of terror will not weaken the spirit of Kashmir or India. The House expressed its deepest condolences to the victims’ families and affirmed its collective resolve to stand by them in this hour of grief.

The attack, which took place in a meadow near Pahalgam, has shaken the region but also reinforced a united stand against terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed that the perpetrators will be hunted down and justice will be served without delay.
