J&K Govt announces 10 lakh compensation, Amit Shah pays tribute to Pahalgam victims

In response to the horrifying terror attack that killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced financial relief for the victims and their families. The incident, which unfolded in the picturesque Baisaran valley on Tuesday, has left the entire nation in mourning.

On Wednesday, the government declared an ex-gratia payment of ₹10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives. Survivors who sustained serious injuries will receive ₹2 lakh each, while those with minor injuries will be given ₹1 lakh. Officials said the relief will be processed swiftly to provide immediate support to the affected.

The attack, the deadliest since the 2019 Pulwama bombing, took place at Baisaran, often referred to as 'mini Switzerland' for its scenic beauty. Armed terrorists opened fire on unsuspecting tourists enjoying pony rides and picnics. Most victims were from different parts of India, turning a vacation into an unimaginable tragedy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday to meet the grieving families. He paid floral tributes during a solemn wreath-laying ceremony and personally visited Pahalgam, where he is leading high-level security meetings with senior military and intelligence officials.

Shah assured families that those behind the massacre would be brought to justice and emphasized the central government’s commitment to maintaining peace in the valley. Families, overwhelmed with grief, shared their pain and demanded swift action against the perpetrators.

Leaders from the opposition also joined in honoring the victims. Congress MP KC Venugopal and Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra were present during the remembrance event, underscoring national unity in the face of such a brutal assault.
