Seven members of a family, including five children, died when their house collapsed in a landslide triggered by a cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district early Saturday. The incident took place at around 3 am in Badder village of Mahore, officials said.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Mahore, Waqar Yunus, confirmed that all seven bodies were retrieved after being trapped for nearly four hours under the debris. The victims included a couple and their five children aged 12, 10, 8, 6, and 4. Visuals from the site showed villagers recovering the bodies from mud and rubble after daybreak.

In Ramban district, three people died and two others went missing following a cloudburst in the Rajgad area around 12:30 am. The cloudburst hit Drubla Natna village, damaging two houses and a school building. “Around 12.30 am, a cloudburst hit Drubla Natna in Rajgarh. Two houses and a school building were hit. As a result, three people have lost their lives while two remain missing. A rescue operation has been launched,” a police officer said.

The incidents come amid heavy monsoon activity across the Union Territory. Between August 14 and 26, a total of 138 people died in rain-related incidents in the districts of Kishtwar, Kathua, and Reasi. Several areas have reported flash floods, landslides, and house collapses due to intense rainfall in recent weeks.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Jammu and Kashmir from August 30 to September 2. Authorities have been advised to remain alert to the risk of further landslides and flooding in vulnerable areas.
