The West Bengal government has started a statewide distribution of Mahaprasad from the newly inaugurated Jagannath Temple in Digha through ration shops. Each ration card-holding household will receive a packet containing a para gaja sweet, a small idol of Lord Jagannath, and a photograph of the temple. The distribution is being coordinated through the public distribution system (PDS) using local ration dealers.
According to officials involved in the process, these packets are being packed overnight under hygienic conditions to ensure purity and safety. The packing is being handled by trained workers, and the materials are being transported in bulk to ration dealers in different districts. From there, the distribution is carried out family-wise through local ration outlets. The initiative is being implemented across the state as part of the Rath Yatra timeline.
The state government has clarified that receiving the prasadam is entirely voluntary. Families are not obligated to accept the offering, and only those who wish to receive it with religious faith may collect it. The move aims to make the offerings from the Digha temple accessible during the religious celebrations while maintaining proper procedure and hygiene.
