A portion of the boundary wall at the Jamalpur Railway Workshop in Munger, Bihar, collapsed onto the Up railway track of Platform No. 3 earlier today, disrupting railway services. The incident occurred when a goods train, which was shunting within the workshop premises, derailed. During the shunting maneuver, one of the train’s wagons went off track and collided with the boundary wall, causing a section of the wall to collapse and fall onto the tracks. This obstruction halted train movements on the Up line of Platform No. 3.
Fortunately, no trains were passing by at the time of the collapse, which helped prevent casualties. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to clear the debris from the railway track. Authorities have since confirmed that the Up line has been temporarily closed while efforts continue to remove the rubble and restore normal operations. The exact cause of the derailment and the wall collapse is under investigation.
This is not the first railway disruption in the region in recent months. On December 12, 2024, a goods train derailed near the Jhajha station, causing a blockage on the Jhajha-Jasidih main railway track. Similarly, on November 21, 2024, a special train derailed near Harinagar station in Bagaha, though a major accident was avoided. In both cases, authorities promptly intervened to prevent further complications. Railway officials are investigating these incidents and reviewing safety measures to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
