The Jharkhand police sent a 29-yr old arts postgraduate woman Aishwarya Rai to jail for smoking in the washroom of the Mumbai-Ranchi Indigo flight in the air. She was handed over to police at Birsa Munda Airport on Thursday night and sent to jail on Friday evening after legal formalities.
She was caught red-handed when the fire alarm of the airplane sounded detecting smoke. Rai told the police that she was a blogger and had smoked to make videos and upload them to her social media accounts as a matter of her hobby.
The woman is a resident of Sakchi in the steel city of Jamshedpur. The officer in charge of the Airport police station Anand Kumar confirmed the action saying that over 150 passengers were boarding the airplane when the woman committed the crime for the thrill.
“Her act was life-threatening. There is a provision of life imprisonment for the act,” OC Kumar said. There have been recent cases of several passengers breaking the rules in airports and on flights. People need to understand that their one mistake could endanger the lives of hundreds in a blink of an eye.
