The Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka took a significant step on Tuesday, suspending Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna amid allegations of sexual abuse leveled against him by multiple women. Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, faced a show-cause notice from the party following the grave accusations.
The decision to suspend Prajwal Revanna was made during the JD(S) core committee meeting.
The move comes after the MP was booked in an alleged sexual harassment case on April 28, following complaints by his former housekeeper. The case has been registered under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation and outraging the dignity of a woman.
JD(S) core committee president GT Devegowda stated, "We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We have decided to recommend our party's national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed," during a press conference.
