JDU criticizes Uttar Pradesh's nameplate order for kanwar yatra as against 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'

The Janata Dal (United), a BJP ally, has criticized the Uttar Pradesh government's recent order requiring food shops along the Kanwar Yatra route to display nameplates. JDU leader KC Tyagi argued that this directive contradicts Prime Minister Narendra Modi's slogan "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas." Tyagi stated, "A Kanwar Yatra bigger than this takes place in Bihar. No such order is in effect there. These prohibitions that have been imposed are in violation of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas' that the PM speaks of...The order is not in effect in Bihar, in Rajasthan, in Jharkhand. It would be good if it is reviewed."

The order, which applies to food establishments along the Kanwar Yatra route, has sparked controversy and is viewed by critics as unconstitutional. Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav condemned the move as a "social crime" and suggested that the courts should intervene. Similarly, Uttarakhand has followed Uttar Pradesh’s lead by mandating that shopkeepers, hotels, and dhaba owners along the Kanwar Yatra route display their names and rate lists. The Kanwar Yatra for 2024 is set to begin on July 22 and will run until August 19.
