Jealous lover murders teenager in New Market after seeing water park post on social media

A horrific fallout of a love triangle shattered the peace of Central Kolkata's bustling New Market area on Wednesday morning when a youth brutally murdered a minor boy. The victim, identified as teenager Deepak Gupta, a resident of Uma Das Lane, was viciously assaulted with a sharp weapon inside a local commercial establishment. The accused, Shashi Tebar, who lives in nearby Amiya Hazra Lane and is significantly older than the victim, launched the premeditated attack in a fit of rage before successfully fleeing the crime scene.

The underlying motive behind the gruesome killing reportedly stems from romantic jealousy involving a local young woman. According to local intelligence, Shashi was in a relationship with the woman, but she had recently developed a close friendship with the minor. Despite receiving multiple warnings and intimidation threats from Shashi to stay away from her, the teenager went out on a date with the woman to a popular water park on Tuesday. The situation reached a boiling point after the minor uploaded pictures of their water park outing on social media, which severely provoked the accused.

Driven by absolute rage over the viral online photos, Shashi tracked the teenager down on Wednesday morning and confronted him. The verbal altercation escalated instantly as the accused stormed into a local grocery shop where the minor was present, drew a sharp knife, and repeatedly stabbed him before slitting his throat. Kolkata Police officials rushed to the blood-soaked grocery shop after being alerted by panic-stricken locals and evacuated the critically injured teen to the nearby NRS Medical College and Hospital.

Medical professionals at the government facility immediately wheeled the victim into the operating theater for emergency surgery to stitch his deep neck wounds. However, despite the best efforts of the trauma team, the minor succumbed to his severe internal injuries and excessive blood loss later in the afternoon. The New Market Police Station has registered a formal case of murder and deployed dedicated homicide teams to track down and apprehend the absconding suspect.
