Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has informed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that he is willing to have his statement recorded in a money laundering case at his secretariat on January 20, according to sources on Monday night. The ED had previously sent him a letter, setting the window for questioning between January 16 and January 20, after Soren had skipped seven previous summons from the agency.
A representative from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) submitted Soren's response to the ED's letter, stating his availability for statement recording on January 20.
The ongoing investigation focuses on an "illegal change of ownership of land by the mafia" in Jharkhand, as per the ED. In connection with the case, the agency has already arrested 14 individuals, including Chhavi Ranjan, a 2011-batch IAS officer who held positions such as the director of the state Social Welfare Department and deputy commissioner of Ranchi.
