Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Thursday asked the police to register an FIR against a couple from Gurgaon and take strict action against them for allegedly torturing and sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl from Ranchi whom they hired as a nanny. The couple, Manish Khattar and his wife Kamaljeet Kaur, were arrested on Tuesday evening.
A four-member team of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) from Jharkhand's Simdega district left for Gurgaon on Thursday to bring back safely a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly tortured and sexually molested in the city for five months. Who employed her as a nanny. The team left on instructions from Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren late on Wednesday night.
Soren also appealed to the Haryana government to ensure the strictest possible punishment for the accused. The couple, identified as Manish Khattar and his wife Kamaljeet Kaur, were arrested on Tuesday evening after the minor was rescued from their house in New Colony.
The minor, who hails from Ranchi, came to the city in mid-2022 with her maternal uncle. She told the police that her husband beat her with sticks, hot iron tongs and lit matches. They also forced her to undress while doing housework, sexually harassed her and forced her to eat leftovers. She said they tried to strangle her.
After the crime came to light, Soren tweeted the state police to open an investigation. He also ordered the Simdega administration to take care of her medical needs and initiate steps for her safe return. AHTU in-charge Pankaj Kumar said, "We have gone to Gurgaon and will arrive on Friday. The girl's mother is also accompanying us." Gurgaon ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan said Khattar will be produced before the court on Friday. "We will help the Jharkhand anti-trafficking unit," he said.
