A first-year student from Jharkhand allegedly committed suicide at the Institute of Hotel Management, Food Technology and Applied Nutrition at Hajipur in Bihar's Vaishali district. Popularly known as IHM Hajipur, the institute is an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Tourism.
Although the management of the institution claimed that it was a suicide, the police also investigated the matter from the point of view of murder or the girl being forced to end her life. The incident took place on Wednesday evening at the hostel of the institute, which is located on its premises.
The victim has been identified as Anisha Kumari, a resident of Hazaribagh in Jharkhand.
When asked about the incident, Director of IHM Hajipur Pulak Mandal told, “It is a case of suicide. Police have details." "Anisha was a first-year student of Bachelor of Hospitality and Hotel Administration course. She was 19 or 20 years old. We got information about the suicide around 5 pm on Wednesday evening. We informed the police," Mandal added.
Hajipur Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Sudhakar Pandey said an FIR has been registered, and the death is under investigation. “Apparently the girl hanged herself from the window using a saree. However, it can be anything. It could also be murder. We have obtained the suicide note but are not releasing its contents at this time as the investigation continues. We are also waiting for the postmortem report,” Pandey said.
Pandey added that the deceased girl's father was a police officer from Jharkhand. He worked with the Bihar Police before the creation of Jharkhand in 2000.
