The Jharkhand State Student Union (JSSU) on Saturday launched a 48-hour strike against Chief Minister Hemant Soren-led government in Ranchi over the revised recruitment policy.
In view of the same, scores of police personnel have been deployed in the state capital to maintain the law and order and prevent any untoward incident. The strike is in protest against the Jharkhand government’s new “60:40” recruitment policy under which 60 per cent of the seats will be reserved for aspirants from the state, while the remaining 40 per cent of the seats will be open to all.
The JSSU has called the strike demanding 100 per cent reservation for the locals in the state government jobs. Several student associations under the JSSU took to the streets in Ranchi early morning to enforce the strike. However, the local traffic was usual in the city later in the day.
The students assembled at the Ranchi Khadgara bus stand where they urged the bus and other vehicle operators to stall their services.
The vegetable markets on Kokar-Lalpur Road, Naga Baba Khatal and other parts of the city functioned normally. “Some 10 agitators were seen on bikes at the bus stand but everything is normal there. Transport and other activities are normal as usual in the city,” Ranchi City SP Shubhanshu Jain said.
Meanwhile, JSSU leader Devendra Mahto said the students will be visiting different places seeking public support and hoped that the impact of the strike will be seen as the day progresses.
“The government has opened the door for outsiders in Jharkhand government jobs, which we cannot allow. So, we have called for a 48-hour Jharkhand bandh beginning June 10,” he said. Mahto added the strike is a part of the 31-day ‘Maha Jan Andolan’, which commenced on May 10.
