A newlywed woman in Jharkhand's Garhwa district has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her husband to death just over a month after their wedding. The accused, Sunita, 22, was taken into custody on Monday evening after the victim’s mother lodged a formal complaint.
According to the FIR, the victim Budhnath Singh married Sunita on May 11. Trouble reportedly began immediately after the ceremony, with Sunita refusing to stay with him and expressing dissatisfaction with the marriage. A village panchayat on June 5 mediated the dispute, and she returned to her husband’s home.
On June 14, the couple visited Ramanujganj market, where Sunita allegedly persuaded Budhnath to buy pesticide under the pretense of agricultural use. Investigators believe she mixed it into his food the next night. Budhnath was found dead the following morning after failing to wake up.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death. Preliminary evidence and statements from the family point to a planned murder. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody while further investigation is underway.
