A gang involved in duping unemployed youth with false promises of jobs in insurance companies was busted by police in Bihar’s Barh subdivision. Three accused, including the main mastermind Amit Kumar, were arrested during a raid based on confidential input. The police also seized three mobile phones and a Passion Pro motorcycle used during the crimes.
According to officials, the gang had been active for the last six months. They targeted unemployed youths by offering fake job opportunities and called them for interviews. During the so-called interview process, the accused took away their mobile phones, ATM and credit cards. The gang then withdrew money from their accounts. If there were no funds available, they used the stolen identity documents to take online loans.
Based on several complaints, the Barh police formed a special team and initiated an investigation. Through technical surveillance and location tracking, the team arrested Amit Kumar from Shobha Bigha village in Nalanda district. Upon interrogation, two other gang members were arrested. Police confirmed that the accused were involved in similar cases registered at Bhadaur, Bakhtiyarpur, Pandarak, and Barh police stations.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar stated that the accused used the lure of insurance sector jobs to trap the victims. “They called the youth for interviews and beat them before looting their belongings,” he said. Police said many victims were also forced to share personal financial details, which were later used for loan fraud.
Police investigation revealed that the gang’s mastermind, Amit Kumar, previously worked at a private company with an annual salary package of ₹9 lakh. However, he became involved in criminal activities in recent months. Further investigation is underway to identify and arrest other absconding members of the gang. Authorities are also tracking digital transactions related to the loan fraud.
