Job seekers storm Calcutta HC over recruitment delay, allegations of attack and abuse on lawyers

A group of job seekers staged a protest outside the Calcutta High Court, raising slogans against judges and lawyers. They questioned the delay in delivering a verdict related to additional recruitment posts. Protesters alleged that the pending case had halted the recruitment process and demanded that the case be withdrawn to allow appointments to proceed. The protest intensified after a hearing before Justice Biswajit Basu’s bench concluded in the afternoon.

Several lawyers, including Vikas Bhattacharya, Firdaus Shamim, Sudipta Dasgupta, and Vikram Banerjee, reportedly faced protests while entering or moving within the High Court premises. Allegations include attempts to throw bottles at the lawyers, verbal abuse, and obstructing their access to chambers. Protesters also brandished shoes toward the lawyers during the demonstration. No physical injuries were reported until late evening.

Senior lawyers reported hearing abusive language directed at them around the High Court premises. Protesters continued to demand that no further proceedings be allowed in the recruitment-related case. The incident highlighted growing tensions between job aspirants and legal representatives over the status of recruitment orders.
