A 13-year-old student, Lokendra Singh, was killed and two others seriously injured on Friday morning when a vehicle collided with their motorcycle near VC House in the Airport police station area. The students were on their way to Barkatullah Khan Stadium to attend Independence Day celebrations, coinciding with the scheduled visit of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to Shaheed Smarak.
Relatives of the deceased accused the local administration of negligence. Former MLA Manisha Panwar stated, “The absence of traffic safety measures on the Chief Minister’s route is concerning. Children were called early in the morning without proper arrangements.” Komal, sister of the deceased, said, “When we reached the spot, my brother’s body was lying there. My two other brothers, Pradeep and Mahavir, were injured. The person with them said that a truck had hit them.”
Police officials, including DCP Amit Jain and ADCP Virendra Singh, arrived at the site soon after the crash. Confusion persisted regarding the type of vehicle involved, with reports mentioning either a gravel dumper or a bus. Authorities confirmed that efforts were underway to trace the vehicle responsible for the accident.
Hospital superintendent Vikas Rajpurohit reported that one of the injured students had been discharged, while another remained under surgery at MDM Hospital. Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to provide medical attention and support for the victims’ families.
Shortly after the incident, police and fire brigade personnel used water hoses to clean blood stains and removed the damaged motorcycle to clear the road for the CM’s convoy. The family of the deceased is demanding justice, and the police have launched a formal investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident and ensure accountability.
