Joint Manch protests at Hazra, demands DA dues and permanent jobs for workers

A joint public meeting was held at Hazra More on Sunday by members of a struggling Joint Manch, raising multiple demands including clearance of pending dearness allowance (DA), permanent appointments against vacancies, and regularisation of temporary workers. The protest comes in the backdrop of a recent Calcutta High Court decision, which has intensified discussions around employee benefits and service conditions.

Protesters, including teachers and government employees, highlighted the issue of nearly six lakh vacant posts and demanded immediate recruitment to address workforce shortages. They also called for the permanent absorption of contractual and temporary workers, stating that long-standing employment insecurity and salary-related issues continue to affect thousands. Among the speakers, teacher leader Arindam emphasised the need for fair treatment of employees and urged authorities to resolve outstanding salary concerns. Demonstrators also raised slogans demanding voting rights protection and better working conditions for teaching and non-teaching staff across the state.

The gathering further demanded strict action against those responsible for an alleged attack on members of the platform, calling for immediate arrests. The protest reflects growing discontent among sections of employees and signals continued pressure on the administration over unresolved financial and employment issues.
