Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to postpone its upcoming national president election, which was initially scheduled for May. The party’s leadership made this decision in response to the current national situation, with particular attention given to the recent security concerns. J.P. Nadda, who has served as the party's national president since 2019, will continue in his role for the time being. His term had already been extended once before. The postponement comes as the BJP focuses on navigating the ongoing challenges in the country.
The delay in the leadership election follows the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which killed 26 people. The attack has contributed to a tense atmosphere across the nation. In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, stating that they would be "obliterated" and punished for their actions. This shift in focus towards national security and unity led the BJP leadership to prioritize stability over internal elections.
Several names had been speculated as potential candidates for the party's national president, including Manohar Lal Khattar, Dharmendra Pradhan, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Nirmala Sitharaman. However, with the decision to delay the election, discussions around the next president have been put on hold. The BJP has emphasized that once the immediate security concerns are addressed, a new election date for the president will be announced. For now, the party remains focused on the stability of its organization and the continued implementation of government policies.
