Eight people died in two days in two districts of Jharkhand. Four people lost their lives in Itki and Boreya villages on Tuesday, while four were trampled in Lohardaga district of the state on Monday.
One of the victims from Lohardaga district succumbed to injuries during treatment. The deceased have been identified as Sukhbir Kiro, Randhawa Devi, Gondwana Oraon and Punayi Oraon.
The Forest Department has given a compensation of Rs 25,000 to each family of the dead and after the completion of the government procedure, Rs 3.25 Lakh is to be given to the bereaved families.
The elephant is said to be angry that it was torn away from its herd and that the forest department is looking for it.
