Kaliyaganj rape-murder: 4 police officers suspended for dragging victim's dead body

Police officers in West Bengal have been suspended after dragging the dead body of a girl student who was allegedly raped and murdered in Kaliaganj, North Dinajpur. The incident caused outrage and criticism towards the police, who have since taken action against the officers involved.

Four ASI rank police officers were found guilty after a preliminary investigation and have been suspended pending a departmental inquiry. The tension in the Sahebghata area of Kaliaganj was high, and locals refused to allow the police to take the body of the deceased. The police then had a clash with the public and dragged the dead body away, which was caught on video and shared on social media.

National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote a letter to the Director General of Police, Bengal, and requested a report within three days. The Superintendent of Police of Raiganj stated that the minor died of poisoning according to the postmortem report. The NCPCR stated that if a written application is given to the police, the report would be submitted as per the rules of the postmortem report.

The BJP organized a sit-in program at Golabari police station to protest against the Kaliaganj gangrape, with supporters from various districts participating. Priyanka Kanungo, chairperson of the Central Child Protection Rights Commission, accused the police of inaction and expressed concern that the girl student had been murdered due to women trafficking.
