Kalyan Banerjee files criminal complaint against Governor bose for ‘incitement’ and ‘community tension’ remarks

Senior Trinamool Congress MP and Supreme Court advocate Kalyan Banerjee filed a detailed written complaint against Governor C.V. Ananda Bose at the Hare Street Police Station, accusing him of making repeated statements that could incite communal tension and disrupt the state’s law and order situation. The complaint claims the Governor’s remarks have the potential to influence the electoral process and undermine constitutional governance in West Bengal.

In his complaint, Banerjee urged police to register a criminal case under Sections 61, 152, 192, 196, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023. These provisions deal with offenses related to incitement, promoting enmity, interference with public order, and disturbing peace. The MP alleged that the Governor’s recent comments—such as suggesting elections be conducted by “bullet, not ballot”—could provoke unrest and create fear among citizens.

The complaint further highlights remarks made by the Governor accusing a section of the police of being “corrupt and criminalized,” which Banerjee argues may fuel distrust in public institutions. He alleged that such statements not only hurt sentiments but also have the potential to trigger hostility between communities, particularly during a sensitive electoral period.

Police have acknowledged receiving the complaint, and further action is expected based on legal examination and procedural requirements.
