'Jo Ram Ko Laye Hain' singer Kanhaiya Mittal to join Congress
Kangana Ranaut's upcoming political drama Emergency, which delves into the life of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has become embroiled in controversy, leading to its certification being put on hold by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite initial clearance, the film has yet to receive its final certification, as revealed by Kangana in a recent video shared on her social media accounts.
In the video, Kangana addressed the rumors that the film had been cleared by the CBFC, stating, “Kayi tarah ki afwahein ud rahi hain ki humari film Emergency ko censor certificate mil gaya hai. It is not true. In fact, humari film clear ho gayi thi lekin uski certification rok li gayi hai kyuki bohot zyada dhamkiya aa rhi hain jaan se maar dene ki censor waalo ko.” She emphasized that the film's certification process was stalled due to the numerous death threats received by censor board members.
The controversy primarily stems from the film's portrayal of sensitive events, including Indira Gandhi's assassination, the depiction of Bhindranwale, and the Punjab riots. Kangana expressed her frustration over the pressure to censor these crucial historical moments, stating, “Toh humpe ye pressure hai ki Mrs Gandhi ki assassination na dikhayein, Bhindrawale ko na dikhayein, Punjab riots na dikhayein. I don't know ki fir kya dikhayein ki film achanak se black out ho jaati hai. This is unbelievable time for me and I am very sorry for the state of things in this country."
Emergency marks Kangana's directorial debut and has already sparked significant debate due to its subject matter. The film features a star-studded cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik.
