Kangana Ranaut's Jayalalithaa biopic titled Thalaivia turned out to be a disaster at the box office. The 2021 film, according to the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, was made on a budget estimated at around 100 crores. Now the film's distributors, Zee Studios, have demanded a return on their Rs six crore investment in the project, reported.
Kangana, who now mostly comments on the work of others, may want to take a break and look within. Zee Studios has been searching for the makers for the past two years and demanding their refund. However, their demands were not met despite repeated efforts. With no other option left, the distributors have now moved to court.
Apart from Ranaut's average performance, Thalaivii also starred Arvind Swamy, Nassar, Bharathi Kannan, Bhagyashree and Raj Arjun. Samuthirakani, Madhoo, Radha Ravi and Thambi Ramaiah also star in the film. It's safe to say that Kangana's career needs a boost. She's going through a professional crisis and maybe, just maybe, her controversial tweets aren't enough to get fans to watch her on the big screen.
The biggest shock 0f 2022 (for her, I hope) came when Kangana’s Dhakkad flopped miserably at the box office. The film could not earn more than 2.3 million rupees at the Indian box office.
None of Kangana's films has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark since Tanu Weds Manu Returns in 2015. Her last blockbuster Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi in 2019 tried hard but failed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office, according to BOI.
Apart from Dhaakad, Kangana was also seen in Panga, Judgmental Hai Kya, Simran, Rangoon, and Katti Batti, among others.
The actress will next be seen in her upcoming directorial Emergency, which also stars Anupam Kher and Milind Soman. The film will also feature the late actor Satish Kaushik.
