Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
West Bengal’s flagship social welfare scheme, Kanyashree Prakalpa, celebrated its 12th anniversary with a grand state-level event at Dhandhanya Stadium in Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee marked the occasion by cutting a cake alongside girl students and lauded the scheme’s role in transforming lives. She said that Bengal’s daughters are the pride of society and the initiative has empowered them through education and self-reliance.
As part of the celebrations, 38 girl students from across the state received the Kanyashree Award and Samman Rashi for exceptional academic achievements. Twelve former beneficiaries, now working as doctors, engineers, administrative officers and entrepreneurs, were also honoured for their professional success.
Five districts — Bankura, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Jhargram and North Dinajpur — were recognised for their exemplary implementation of the scheme. Awards were also presented to three Kolkata schools — Barisha Girls’ High School, Behala Sarada Vidya Peeth and Uchcha Balika Vidya Mandir for Girls — for their contribution, along with Bangaswati College, Vivekananda College for Women and Asutosh College for their active role in promoting the programme.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed her government’s commitment to further strengthening Kanyashree Prakalpa to reach more young women and help them achieve their aspirations.
