The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the upcoming Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. The state has a total of 5.22 crore voters, including 9.17 lakh first-time voters who will exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections. The Congress party announced its first list of candidates for the state elections, with 124 candidates, including prominent leaders such as Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, and KH Muniyappa.
Siddaramaiah, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, will contest from the Varuna constituency in Mysuru, while DK Shivakumar will contest again from the Kanakpura constituency. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is the ruling party in the state, is yet to announce its list of candidates.
As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the voting for the Karnataka Assembly Elections will take place on May 10, 2023, and the results will be declared on May 13, 2023. With the announcement of the election schedule, political parties in Karnataka have intensified their preparations for the upcoming polls, with the Congress party hoping to regain power in the state, and the BJP looking to hold on to its position as the ruling party.
