The postmortem report in the Kasba triple death case has confirmed that three-year-old Rudraneel Roy was strangled, while his parents, Somnath and Sumitra Roy, died by hanging. Injury marks were found on the child's face, indicating forceful suffocation. The couple’s bodies were discovered in their Haltu residence on Tuesday morning, with Somnath’s body tied to his child’s.
A suicide note was found on the room’s wall, in which Somnath blamed his uncle, Pradeep Kumar Ghoshal, and aunt, Neelima Ghoshal, for a prolonged property dispute. The police arrested both for abetment to suicide, and a court has remanded them to seven days in police custody. However, they denied the allegations, stating that the dispute was only over property tax receipts. Sumitra’s family has accused them of mental harassment.
Police investigations revealed that Somnath was under severe financial stress. He had taken a ₹10 lakh loan from a government bank, facilitated by a loan broker, Chanchal Mukherjee. Authorities arrested Mukherjee for his involvement in arranging the loan and allegedly taking a commission. Neighbors have stated that moneylenders frequently visited the house, but their direct involvement in the deaths is still under investigation.
Two complaints were filed at Kasba police station. The first, by Sumitra’s sister, accused Somnath’s relatives of abetment to suicide and conspiracy. The second, by Sumitra’s father, alleged murder by an unidentified person. The police are probing both complaints, with forensic teams examining evidence from the crime scene.
According to the postmortem report, Sumitra had deep ligature marks on her neck, signs of bleeding on the right side of her head, and injuries near her right eye. Somnath’s body had similar rope marks, consistent with hanging. Investigators are also analyzing call records and financial transactions to establish a timeline of events leading to the deaths.
Authorities continue to question witnesses, including neighbors and financial lenders, to determine if external pressure contributed to the incident. Further forensic analysis and interrogation of the arrested individuals are expected in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
