CPI(M) leader beaten on road in Kharagpur for protesting wall demolition, shirt torn
Protests intensified on Monday in Kolkata’s Kasba following the alleged gang-rape of a female student inside South Calcutta Law College on June 25. The student alleged she was assaulted over three hours in both the union and guard rooms. Four persons, including a former student and college staffer with political links, have been arrested. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and CCTV footage is being reviewed. The college has been shut indefinitely, triggering widespread outrage among students from multiple law institutions.
The activists of the BJP youth wing (Yuva Morcha) take out a protest rally against the Kasba gang-rape case. During their march, cops stopped them at Esplanade (Dharmtalla), where the saffron party activists started to clash with the personnel. Following this, several workers were detained by the police. Meanwhile, members of the ABVP and SFI also stage a protest against the gang-rape case.
