The Kasba shooting incident, which left Councillor Sushanta Ghosh slightly injured, has uncovered a complex web of criminal activity and a potential land dispute. On Friday, Ghosh was targeted in an attempted assassination near his residence in Rajdanga’s Chakraborty Para. Two individuals were involved in the attack, with one suspect being caught by local residents while the other managed to escape on a scooter.
The investigation revealed that the second suspect likely discarded the firearm in a nearby pond while fleeing. Following the incident, police conducted an extensive search of the Shantipalli canal, located approximately 80 meters from Ghosh’s house, with divers from the Disaster Management Department participating in the operation. Despite a 40-minute search, no weapon was recovered. Authorities then extended their search to the adjoining jungle and an abandoned construction site in the vicinity, but the weapon remained missing.
Further inquiries have pointed to a connection with Iqbal, a notorious criminal from Bihar, who is alleged to have supplied the firearm used in the attack on Ghosh. This development has raised concerns about the involvement of organized crime in the area. Notably, this was not the first attempt on Ghosh’s life; authorities have reported two previous incidents in August and October where assailants attempted to attack him, which may be connected to the same group.
Additionally, investigators are examining a potential land dispute as the motive behind the shooting. It is believed that a conflict involving Ghosh over land may have played a role in the orchestrated attack. The ongoing investigation is focused on identifying all those involved, recovering the weapon, and determining whether the land dispute is indeed the primary motive. Authorities are also looking into any connections between the suspects and local or regional criminal networks.
